+ What does Storganize do?
Storganize is the stress free storage solution for college students. We offer on-demand, in-room pickup and delivery, insurance on all items in storage and a web profile where customers can view items in storage and schedule pickups and deliveries.
+ Why should I use Storganize?
Storage and moving are no fun, so let the experts handle it for you. Storganize has been operating in D.C. since 2015 and our founders, Brendan Doherty and Philip Olive, worked for more than 8 years in the moving industry prior to launching Storganize.
+ What storage options are available?
We currently have 2 types of storage plans to choose from. We offer free boxes and tape for all customers, regardless of plan.
Storganize Economy- The most affordable plan for students living on-campus. We have 2 pickup days scheduled for American University: Sunday, May 1st for North Campus (outside McDowell Hall) and Monday, May 2nd for South Campus (in the Anderson-Letts Hall courtyard.
Storganize Premium- The most convenient option. If you live off-campus, attend another univeristy in the DC area or can't make one of our Economy pickup days, this is the plan for you. You schedule a time for us to pick up your stuff and we come right to your room, move everything out for you and deliver it back to your room when you want it. Premium customers also get an online inventory where you can log in to see what you're storing and schedule deliveries right through the website.
+ How does the Economy Plan work?
Pickup: Economy customers must bring their items for storage to one of our pickup locations on AU's campus. We will have moving dollies available to help you move your stuff out of the dorm. The pickup days and locations are as follows: North Campus (McDowell, Cassel, Hughes, Leonard, Nebraska Halls)- May 1st, 2016: In Front of McDowell Hall South Campus (Letts-Anderson, Clark, Centennial, Roper Halls)- May 2nd, 2016: In the Letts-Anderson Courtyard
Delivery: Deliveries work pretty much the same way as pickups. We will deliver items back to North and South campus on consecutive days during move-in week in August (specific dates TBD once AU releases the Fall Academic Calendar) as well as to the main off-campus apartments (The Avalon, The Berkshire and The Greenbrier). Economy customers will select a 30min window on the delivery date for our movers to deliver your items right to your dorm room or off-campus apartment.
+ How does the Premium Plan work?
Storganize Premium is a full-service offering designed to make moving and storage a breeze. When you sign up, you will schedule a time for us to deliver you free boxes and tape (or use your own boxes) as well as a time for us to pick up your items. Our movers will move everything out for you directly from your room.
When you want your items back, just schedule a delivery through your online profile and we'll move everything right into your room.
Please be aware that pickup and delivery times are scheduled on a first-come-first-served basis, so schedule your time in advance if you want to have the most flexibility with regards to timing.
+ Where does Storganize operate?
Storganize’s main office is based in Northwest, Washington, DC and we serve the DC area universities. We are members of the American University Entrepreneurship Incubator, located on the 3rd floor of the MGC building on campus. We currently serve American University students with our Economy offering. Students from other DC area universities are welcome to sign up with our Premium offering.
+ When are you accepting sign ups for Summer '16 storage?
If you would like to store your belongings with us this summer, we currently are accepting sign ups for both the Economy and Premium plans until April 28th. We have a limited number of slots available for each plan so sign up early to lock in your spot!
+ How can I sign up?

+ What can I store?
Pretty much anything that is less than 250lbs and 10ft tall. We cannot accept any:
1. Illegal substances
2. Hazardous Materials

+ How much does it cost to store my items?
Storganize charges per box or per unboxed item. If you elect to pay upfront for your entire storage term, you will pay less per item than if you select to pay month-to-month. Pickup and delivery are free!
Per Item Fees depend on the storage plan you select.
- Storganize Economy:
$12/month per box/bin;
$25/month per unboxed item
$15/month per box/bin;
$30/month per unboxed item
- Storganize Premium:
$15/month per box/bin;
$30/month per unboxed item
$17/month per box/bin;
$35/month per unboxed item
+ How much does it cost for Storganize to pick up my items?
Your pickup is free regardless of the plan you choose! There is a $60 charge if you need more than one pickup of your items.
+ How much does it cost for Storganize to deliver my items?
Your delivery is free regardless of the plan you choose! There is a $60 charge if you need more than one delivery of your items.
+ Is there a minimum amount of time I have to store my items?
Storganize does have a 1 month minimum, but you can request your items back at any time. If you are storing for less than a month, you will be charged for the full month for items you remove early.
+ When does my monthly billing cycle begin?
Storganize will collect your credit card information upon signup, but we will not start charging you until the day we pick your items to take them to storage. From there, you will be charged every month on the “anniversary” of your pick-up day (if you select to pay month-to-month).
If you pay upfront for your storage term, you will be charged the full amount on the day we pick up your items.
+ Do you pro-rate your monthly storage fees?
No. We do not prorate charges and there is no discount for removing your items before the end of your monthly billing cycle. If you request an item back before the end of your billing cycle, you will be charged for that item for the remainder of that month and it will be removed from your bill at the start of your next billing cycle.
If you have paid upfront for your storage term and need your items back before the end of the term, we will refund you any months that you did not use.
+ How do you manage billing and credit cards?
We require that you put down a credit / debit card when you Sign Up for our service online. Your card will not be charged until the day we come to pick up your items for storage and will be charged monthly after that until you cancel your service (if you elected to pay month-to-month). We use Stripe payment processing to securely store your card and manage your monthly charges.
+ How do I update my billing information?
Since we don’t store your credit card data ourselves, please notify us at firstname.lastname@example.org that you would like to update your billing info and we'll send you a secure form where you can change your info.
+ How do I cancel my service?
Canceling is simple- just request a delivery of all your remaining items in storage. Once all your items are returned to you, or brought to another address, junk or donation center, your service will automatically cancel. We do not prorate charges, so if you request your items be removed before the end of your monthly billing cycle, you will still be charged for the remainder of that month and your service will cancel before your next billing cycle begins.
Boxes, Packing and Moving:
+ What size are the boxes you provide? How many can I get?
Our boxes are standard, medium-sized cardboard moving boxes. The exact dimensions are 18' x 18' x 16' or 3 cubic ft.
Economy customers can pick up boxes and tape for free from one of our on-campus tabling sesssions in front of MGC on April 12th, April 19th and April 21st from 11am-2pm or on your pickup day (May 1st or May 2nd)
Premium customers can select a day and time when you sign up for us to deliver boxes and tape right to your door.
You can take as many boxes as you think you'll need. We'll only charge you for the boxes for the ones you actually end up storing with us.
+ I have my own boxes. Will you accept them?
Yes. We provide you with our boxes for free upon request, but if you prefer to use your own boxes or bins, we’re happy to accept them. All boxes are charged at the same rates as our boxes regardless of size. We reserve the right to refuse to take, or ask you to repack, boxes weighing more than 35lbs.
+ What counts as a "box"?
Cardboard boxes, plastic storage bins, bags and suitcases all count as "boxes" and will be charged at the box rate for your plan.
+ Do you accept items that don’t fit into boxes?
Yes. If it won’t fit into a box, we call it an un-boxed item. The fee for storing un-boxed items depends on your plan and if you elect to pay upfront or month-to-month.
+ Do you accept furniture?
Yes. All furniture items are considerd unboxed items and will be charged as such. For Economy customers we will have dollies avialable on the set pickup days to help you move furniture items. For Premium customers, we'll move your furniture straight from your room for you!
+ Do you provide packing assistance?
No, but we will provide you with as many of our boxes as you like as well as tape.
+ Do I need to have all my items packed before Storganize arrives?
Yes. Storganize does not provide packing assistance and we allot 1 hour of moving help per pickup or delivery request for Premium customers. If you need more than 1 hour of moving help, additional hours are $30/hr, so we recommend that you have all your items packed before we arrive to facilitate the moving process.
Economy customers must bring their items for storage to either our North Campus station out front of McDowell Hall on May 1st or our South Campus station in the courtyard of Anderson-Letts Hall on May 2nd.
+ Will you move my items out of my house for me?
Yes! Our moving team is happy to move all your items out of your house for you, provided that you, or someone you trust, will be present during the pickup window. We allot 1 hour of moving help per pickup or delivery request; additional hours, if needed, are $30/hr.
Pickups and Deliveries:
+ How do I schedule a pickup of my items?
Premium may schedule their pickup when they Sign Up for the service on our website or request that we contact you to schedule your pickup. Existing customers can request that our movers “Bring extra items out to storage” at any time from their web profile. All pickups occur within a 2 hour window which you can select during the Sign Up process.
Economy customers must bring their items to either our North Campus location on May 1st, 2016 or our South Campus location on May 2nd, 2016.
+ How far in advance can I schedule a pickup or delivery?
Pickups and deliveries must be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance.
+ How long does it take for you to bring my items back to me?
We promise we’ll deliver your items to you within the 2 hour time window you select. All requests for pickups and deliveries must be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance.
+ Do I have to be present during the pickup window?
No, but we highly recommend that you or a person you trust be present for the scheduled pickup. If you choose to have a person you trust handle the pickup, we’ll ask for that person’s name and phone number when you sign up for a pickup. If no one will be present during the pickup, you may select to leave your items in an accessible place for our movers to pick up. If you choose not to have someone present, Storganize will not be liable if the items you left for pickup are stolen, damaged or lost before we arrive.
+ What days of the week and hours do you operate your pickups and deliveries?
We operate 7 days a week and you can schedule your 2 hour pickup window for any time between 8am and 6pm.
+ Will anyone open my boxes/bins while they are in Storganize’s care?
We reserve the right to open any boxes or items which we reasonably belive to contain prohibited or dangerous items or if we are compelled by law to do so. That said, we do not generally open sealed boxes or bins while in our care.
Our Premium service includes the creation of an online inventory of your items in storage complete with photos and descriptions of each box and unboxed item. If boxes are sealed, we will take an overhead photo of the outside of the box. If boxes are unsealed, we may remove the top to take the photo to allow our customers to better identify what is in each box from the picture. You may request on your pickup day that we do not remove the tops to your unsealed boxes and just take a photo of the outside of the box.
+ Where does Storganize store my items?
Storganize does not own a warehouse and partners with established self-storage facilities in Maryland, Virginia and DC to store your items. Our current partner facilities are located in Kensington, Rockville, Shirlington, Laurel and Landsdowne. All our partner facilities employ 24/7 security and must meet our standards of cleanliness and climate control.
+ Can I access my items in storage myself?
No. For security and insurance reasons, as well as our partnership contracts with the storage facilities we use, we cannot permit our customers to access their items while in storage. Our service is designed for your convenience and we hope you’ll never have to go out to a storage unit yourself again.
+ Are my items insured while they are in Storganize’s care?
Storganize offers a base level of valuation (insurance) for all items in our posession. This valuation is limited to maximum of $100/item (a box or bin counts as one item) for our Economy Plan and $250/item for our Premium Plan. We take the utmost care when transporting and storing your items, but, if you find one of your items to be damaged or lost upon delivery, you may submit a claim via our email, email@example.com.
We assess all claims and will attempt to find the standard market price of similar items to the one which was lost or damaged and will make payouts to our customers accordingly. By agreeing to store with us, you understand that you cannot make a claim for more than $100/item on our Economy Plan and $250/item for our Premium Plan.
